Comics Writer

I’m preparing myself to write a comics series. I shall not discuss here the why’s and who’s, save for saying that I was pushed. Anyway, I have a general idea, and now I’m starting my reserach. It’ll be, on the whole, quite a big one. Both research and comics, come to think of it. My first step is acquainting myself with the medium. I’ve read very little comics in the past – Gaiman’s Sandman, Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, The Invisibles, several graphics novels (notably Pratchett’s Discworld ones) – and that’s about it. I’ve taken measures to correct that situation. During the last several days already managed to read the first volume of Miller’s Sin City, Gaiman’s & McKeans The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch and Signal to Noise, Garth Ennis and Phil Winslade’s Goddess, and I’m soon to finish Alan Moore’s Watchmen. I’m enjoying myself very much, though I’ve no idea where all those little baloons surrounding me came from. Now I’m preparing for the second step, which is much more difficult: preparing the historical background for my own story. This will concern mostly the military history of Israel, especially the Israeli air force. This week I’m supposed to receive several volumes of Israel’s History Carta Atlas, and I’m still searching for particular material regarding the early history of the air force. This is the first time in my life that history is useful!
